If things like doxxing or trying to get people fired for their opinions were outlawed then the issue could be fixed. Only harsh laws can clamp down on a crazed majority.

I can't see how it's possible to make it illegal, but it can be cited as outside the free speech umbrella.  A few hefty lawsuits should get the job done.

It could. But we have to have a court system that does this. Only punishment stops tyranny of the majority. I don't believe in waiting 30 years for some social movement.

FYI, you and yours ARE the majority.
Spreading misinformation these days is dangerous and harmful, and it needs to be monitored, countered and retracted where necessary.

In World War II Americans were warned to not accept rumors as truth. Rumors could be misinformation and (perhaps even more dangerous) official secrets. There was much to not tell, like ship sailings, directions of ship sailings (especially of troop ships), weapons productions and new weapons (such as retooling).

The problem today is that the totalitarian menace to America is no longer in Berlin, Rome, or Tokyo; it is Americans with contempt for the civil liberties of those who disagree with their agenda. Totalitarian ideologies often begin with crank beliefs. Never underestimate the hazard of crank beliefs, as crank beliefs can send people to gas chambers.
As a Christian you have a right to boycott an entertainer who disses Jesus.
An Inclusivist has an analogous right to boycott someone who disses transgenders.
So Aspie, you want to cancel "cancel culture"? Good luck on that one!

I have been unfairly cancelled many times throughout my life. It seems a part of life. Good TV and radio shows have been cancelled for poor ratings for many decades. Cancelling seems to be worse now. But who is cancelling whom? It happens on all sides. Sometimes for good reasons; sometimes not.

QED!

This is exactly my issue. "Cancellers" are more outraged by stupid racist jokes made 10 year ago than by very current violent, sexist and often racist porn industry.

I think cancelling the porn industry is a good idea. If the atheists my age want to cancel my religion I have no issue cancelling their porn and banning it.

You mean like the way liquor was cancelled out during Prohibition?

The difference is that porn has unlimited consumption and isn't limited by finances or income. You can be on porn for 20 hours a day. Another difference is that any 10 year old with a phone can access porn easily. A 10 year old now can much more easily access porn than alcohol.

As a minority in my generation who's views have been persecuted I have no issue doing cancel culture to the other side when the other side would want me in prison for the things I think or say.

Does seem like we’re headed there much to my own chagrin. A town near me voted to cancel lap dancing. Was quite depressed to learn this because I enjoyed talking to them although I usually couldn’t afford more than one dance per visit. I do wonder just how long it might be before the sex work domino finally falls as they have already done for gambling and marijuana. Contrary to popular beliefs, most are doing so out of their own free will rather than in some kind of captivity. When you really think about it, nearly all of us are held captive to the dollar sign all the way up to when we die.

I'm glad you understand that.

"Cancellation culture" is overrated, it usually has no effect on the finance of the "cancelled". It's also natural not to make friends with someone who despises your views, there is no need to call that "cancelling".

And remember "cancel" is a verb, not a noun.

I agree, "cancel culture" is not the existential threat that some people make it out be. It's a reflection of our social era's need for consensus over conflict.

But it is conflict to the side that disagrees. If you are not in the consensus then it's very much full of conflict.
