So, what did those planners do to earn their paychecks during their stint under Obama other than flap their gums, fuck around and act important and accomplish little to nothing. BTW, that is what liberals seem to do best these days.

I see a lot of extremists parroting their extreme and not trying to understand the opposites.  Rachel, less so.  She is loyal to one side of the partisan debate, but she also reports well of the facts.  In response, from a partisan I get only insults and belittlement, not an honest rebuttal of her reporting.

From my perspective, this does not speak well of the alleged rebuttal.

When a blue extremist makes a claim against the red, I at least try to come up with a rational reason why the red believes that way.  This is usually not that hard.  He lives in a different environment, is presented often with different challenges, and has good reason for his different responses.  Some would rather give an insult than a reason.  Few place themselves with the shoe on the other foot, and try to think though the reason.

I have heard that the answer is to overwhelm the reason.  X is wrong, therefore Y must defeat them at the polls.  That might still have to be done.  Still, X is stubbornly reluctant to admit that he might be wrong in another environment, reluctant to admit that the other guy has needs too.  He would rather hurl insults than think and understand.  Meanwhile he uses the thing the opposite side produces, is part of the balanced whole.
Dude, you said it yourself, she's loyal to one side of the partisan debate. I've seen her belittle and insult those who didn't support her/ her side or supported someone or something that hurt her side. It's amazing that a woman like her makes way more money than me. Oh well, I'll get over it. I'll give her credit, she knows liberals and she knows what liberals want and she knows what she has to do and say to keep her job. You pretty much proved that to me.

Well, if she has valid criticism of what someone has done, she does not need to pile on much.  If Trump failed to act and caused many deaths out of fear of being held responsible, he deserves to be held responsible.  You don't run for President of the United States if you fear being held responsible.  But Tump is so tone deaf that she need to pile on before he will hear her.

But she talks of what policies are and who is responsible for them before piling on.  For the most part, the piling on is generally deserved.

Policy should follow truth.  If a government policy does not benefit the people, she will say so and deservedly so.   She got and keeps her show for reporting succinctly and truthfully on what is happening.  You don’t.  You insult.  You imply she does something without reporting on what she allegedly did.  You criticize what she says without saying what she said that you are criticizing.  Like how do I correct your accusations of lying when you don’t or won’t or can’t say what lie she allegedly told?  You are only  showing your own ignorance and bias.

Where the (expletive deleted) is the beef behind what you are saying?  What other than spreading insults are you doing?

It is hardly surprising she gets good pay while your opinions are pretty typical and held worthless.

Dude, she probably makes more than Trump right now. Liberals like you and others here value her and that's all that she needs and all that MSNBC must need too. The funny thing about liberals is the liberals have no clue who we really are these days. Dude, I know who the liberals are these days.

There you go with the insults, lies and bias again. What did she say that isn't true? Does she leave it clear which policy resulted in the many deaths? You can make individual statements which amount to how biased you are, but what other than that to you contribute?

On what basis other than your bias did you make up the fake news of her better pay than Trump? Let's start there.

Dude, a pornographer might make more than a preacher, but if I am a religious person I am more likely to accept the advice of a preacher than that of the pornographer on how to live a good life. I am also more likely to heed a professor of philosophy who struggles to make ends meet (college professors are no longer paid well if the university can get away with such) than a successful bookie.

Income and wealth are not authority, and neither is poverty credibility. Authority comes from a solid presentation of fact in a rational manner. Rachel Maddow does that well. These days the divide between Left and Right in American politics is between bland liberals (largely) on the Left and near-fascists (yes, Donald Trump is one of them) on the Right. In a way I pity the genuine conservatives who now have practically no home since the Hard Right hijacked what used to be their Party. I welcome them to vote with liberals now because freedom matters more than does some agenda.

Conservative values are relevant in a genuine democracy; fascist values are not. If my side had to choose between Marxism and a bland conservatism, then most of us would go with the conservatives because liberalism can revive under conservatives. Marxists are as hostile to liberalism as they are to conservatism; I can replace "Marxists" with "fascists" in that sentence and still be equally true.

History is a bloody tale that delves into the obscene. It also shows what good people do not allow to repeat. The mangled wreck of a car following a head-on collision  or slamming into a tree due to the misconduct of a driver is ugly -- but people prone to driving in ways in which such is possible might learn something from seeing that wreck. Maybe someone will be scared into driving more cautiously. So it is with photos of bodies stacked like cordwood at Nazi concentration camps or with exhibits of bones at memorials to those who died under the Khmer Rouge.

I hear the rhetoric of Donald Trump and I am scared. I have a handicap, and I have heard him mock mine.

I dunno, he's pretty much leveled the liberal mass media machine at this point. You need balls and the others to accomplish that task. How does a party end up with a bunch of third tier politicians running for President and so many third tier politicians in the legislative branch? Hint: As liberals were wasting time impeaching for nothing. Trump was out campaigning and drawing large crowds. I don't know if you really want to bring in lack of judgement and brains to with discussion a poster who has been telling you that liberals are suffering from a serious lack off them (balls, judgement and brains) for MANY years. Trump doesn't represent the autocratic style (one size fits all) that liberals obviously prefer these days. How long have you and every other fool been telling me how its going to be once the liberals have control? That's authoritarian buddy. Right now, you are basically under American libertarian rule which grants you all kinds of freedoms whether you think we need them, value or appreciate them yourselves or not. It's so funny that you and the other fools don't seem to realize that's what the so-called liberal side represent these days. Of coarse, you may not be able to see, believe or accept that most Americans are actually smarter and wiser than most liberals these days.

I don't see how the Dems could have ignored Trump's clearly illegal behavior and not impeached.  What's a bit shocking is the GOP Senate basically giving him a green light to do anything he wants.  You do realize that no one holds that office longer than 8 years anymore, and payback is almost a given.  Here's the question: will you be outraged when the Dems run roughshod over your idea of America?

You need brush up on what it means to be an autocrat. Autocrats rule by fiat, democrats rule by law.  Trump is obviously an autocrat wannabe, and given the free-reign he has with the Senate covering his bets, he's getting bolder by the day.  There is nothing more typical of an autocrat than the clear end-run he's used to take total and unsupervised control of the $2Trillion relief fund.  He didn't fire the DoD Inspector General because he didn't like him.  He just wanted him out of the way.  Next: he'll refuse to release the details of the disbursements prior to the election, as the law requires.  Of course, he already ignores subpoenas and other laws already on the books … because he's an autocrat!

There have been many changes suggested in the course of the current saeculum, and it will be time for them to be considered as never before and perhaps acted upon. Right now, the USA has almost 500,000 corona cases while the next nation on the list has 150,000, and the USA trend line alone continues straight up with no end in sight, because our government dropped the ball big time.

Right now, under this "executive that doesn't act," our libertarian country is not able to act on a national basis, which would mean supplying everyone with testing, masks/PPE and respirators/ventilators etc. for severe cases, which has worked in other countries. Obviously this means we need to get rid of the conservative economic libertarians in our government; overturn trickle-down free-market ideology, etc.

Can this be put into law? Will the country break up into some set of blue and red states? Or perhaps be more tightly federalized? Will a parliamentary system replace the elected king system we have now that makes it too hard to get rid of the king? Will we get rid of the corrupt big-money politics that puts politicians in office that put profit as primary? That seems quite possible, as we discover that the president already has the power to act. But who the president is has been determined by outdated politics and by the outdated electoral college. Big money favors the libertarian ideology that says the president should not act; that government is the problem. So, much reform in this area would seems something we can sure of about what changes to the law we need, at least.

Obviously too, a nation beset with the most-severe pandemic in the world in our times, most-severely, but does not have a health system which people can depend on without forcing them into bankruptcy, needs an essential change.

I have to disagree with that.  Trump has real talents, just not useful ones.  But credit (?) where it's due: Trump's petty names stick.  Sleepy Joe, Pocahontas, Little Marco … the list is long, yet no one asks Joe who, or even who is Pocahontas.  That said, he's petty and vindictive, but no one expects more, so it works for him.

Democrats had no choice other than to impeach the President for attempting to blackmail the President of Ukraine. Ordinarily national security gives the edge to Republicans, but Trump threw that away for a partisan advantage. All but one Senate Republican excused the President. This happens when a Party excuses anything that the Leader does. The single-Party Reichstag did that for Hitler, and the single-Party Supreme Soviet did that for Stalin.

Democrats had to impeach the President then even if such was inconvenient and ineffective.

You anti-welfare trickle-downers just want to stop your money from going to black people. That's perfectly clear. It seems like most insult on this site.  Most are also so used to insults coming from the other side of the fence that the insults don’t hurt.  You get immune real quick.  It seems that insults are better if you back them with beef.  If you like to an article or news media that supports what you say, or reference a theory, or whatever, the insult can be a tag line to convince the other guy to wake up.

What is bothering me at the moment is when people go straight to the insult without any backup other than their bias or perspective.

I haven’t thought much of the Evangelicals all along.  One can be Evangelical and a bigot at the same time.  Many Evangelicals do doublethink with Jesus, claiming they know his teachings, but you would not know it by their actions.  While I remain a devout agnostic, the Catholic nuns did teach me a form of morality at a young age, enough to recognize a hypocrite.

Yes, and there is the divide between what a perspective represents and what the other side perceives.  Insults to hypothetical blue folk don’t touch me at all when I have not met any blue folk that actually think that way.  I suspect it works the other way around.  You would suppose if you believe the blues that the folks in the center of the country with their small government, low taxes, low domestic spending bias, do not care if they are poor as long as there are minorities poorer, and do not care if the elites end up with all the money and resources so long as minorities don’t get it.

Is it true?  How much of the small government ideal is based on Reagan’s imaginary welfare queen?  If so, would a really pithy insult wake the bigot up?  Do insults hurt bigots?  Or do insults just slide right off, as they come from the other side?

I'll give her credit, she knows liberals and she knows what liberals want and she knows what she has to do and say to keep her job. You pretty much proved that to me.

That is an amazing complaint from a man  who supports DJT: the absolute master of insulting everyone.  Either you're OK with insults, or you aren't.

Trump hasn't insulted me yet. He's mainly insulted liberals and other people (Neo-cons and GOP's) who insult him or screwed him and tend insult us all the time. Now, I don't need Trump to do the insulting for me because I'm quite capable of insulting liberals myself and pointing out their serious flaws and weakness's. As a matter of fact, the mass majority of the Republican base is quite capable of insulting liberals and taking them to task if need be.  In case you aren't up on current events the Evangelical wing is no longer leading like it was during the Bush years. I'm meaner and less caring and more tolerant of wrong doing than a so called Jesus freak. Liberals aren't very nice and it's hard for a nicer group to compete with pack of vicious morons with few druthers. Dave we are at war, we aren't seriously inflicting damage or killing each other yet but make no mistake we are at war with the liberals. I'm ok with insults and so are you. I hope you're aren't dumb enough to plead innocence because I'll stop posting and spend some time pointing out insults that liberals make here.

No politician gets everything that he wants. No politician, unless wielding despotic power to the extent of having the power of life and death over everyone (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Idi Amurderin', Satan Hussein) can demand such fealty. If one is President of the United States one automatically becomes an easy target for unflattering caricatures.

Wrong in so many ways, exploiting racism and ugly stereotypes of Africa that have never vanished in America. Did anyone go to prison for this? It says more about the person who created the image than it does about Obama. Then again, I do not want this country to become the sort in which a wisecrack about the political leadership will get one prison time.

As Harry Trump said of the Presidency (and really, fame itself):

"If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen".

Fame for a figure of entertainment means that the hack journalists are looking for some faux pas -- perhaps some egregious act of disgusting behavior. Drunk and obnoxious? Temper tantrum? Stiffing the wait-staff? Telling a politically-incorrect joke? Cheating on a spouse? Maybe some hack reporter (as for the National Enquirer)  can do a little checkbook journalism -- pay someone on the domestic staff enough money to take the family to Disneyland, and maybe get a story. Obama had enough self control that he was rarely good for such a story. Trump acts as if he does not care. Fame comes with a loss of privacy, something to consider before setting off on a career as a screen actor, professional athlete, pop musician, or politician.

Donald Trump mocked a reporter on the autistic spectrum. Nobody is autistic by choice. I would rather be black than have the supposedly-mild form of autism that I have. It's like being under the sort of drug that mutes joys and intensifies sorrows. It is fortunate that I have no egregious enemies upon whom to wish it. For some people, Asperger's would be an improvement.

Drunks, dopers, and criminals may be fair game, as are people of egregious bad behavior. Really, I am sick of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton... I remember hearing plenty of "Helen Keller" jokes when I was not yet ten by my peers. After about that age I quit hearing them from my peers. At a certain age one learns to not mock the handicap. At some point one realizes that someone crippled might have been a war hero, and there but for the Grace of God go you.

I admit to having come up with some nasty, but I hope witty, insults. I dealt with a Republican fundraiser one day over the phone (it was winter in Michigan)... "Do you know the difference between Republicans in the Michigan state legislature and Michigan snakes? Snakes hibernate in a Michigan winter! Or with Susan Smith, who drove her car off a pier with her children in it and claimed that her children had been kidnapped by a black car thief...

"Don't call her a bitch. Dogs are about the best mothers in the animal world!"

Trump has not insulted you because you do not matter to him. That is a good position in which to be. People who 'fail' to obey him without question or resistance make him angry.

...I try to be nice to people. It makes life easier and more satisfying.  I associate President Trump with a nasty ideology that demeans people. I need enumerate that no further.

Yep. Lots of insults. So, why are you preaching to me about it when you are guilty of doing it yourself. You have two types of insults. Insults that are deserved or warranted and those that are not. You shouldn't preach to me about bigots or bigotry either. You see, bigots call people that they don't know and have never met racists. Guess what, you're guilty of doing it. One can a liberal and a bigot at the same time. I see them a lot. Don't believe me, watch The View. I'm sure you will agree with the liberal bigots and disagree with the one telling them they're wrong. We have a lot of people on welfare in this country. We see them every day in every community and we are spending a shitload of money on them, illegals and those with refugee. I call it the welfare state. Others call it the nanny state. If we didn't, the Democrats wouldn't be able to win an election this country. The bulk them are a single women with kids who have boyfriends instead of husbands. Like I've said, I've been around more than you. You see, if you don't take the time to get to know a lot of people then you end up pretty clueless like your politicians and your people like Rachel Maddow. You do know that Rachel is pretty clueless because she doesn't take the time to talk to other people than her people line up for her show.
