It's always that way until something breaks badly enough to force the elites out of their shared throne.  Normally, they have the money and power to maintain their money and power, so no need for great expectations until that changes.

Automobiles themselves devour space whether parked or moving. Economic realities price the middle class out of owning  automobiles in much of Greater New York City.  Contrast rural New Mexico, where space is cheap, and poor people have cars.

There's no car ban, of course. That's just something our libertarian spammer says. But we are trying to keep our mileage standards.

In any event it is a proposed ban, and it is highly unlikely to be enacted into law. Greater Los Angeles still has a car culture. Of course, should California cities become as densely populated as Hong Kong, Seoul, or Tokyo, then using a car will be prohibitively expensive for many. Parking a car will cost more than car payments, whether at the workplace or at one's apartment. But that has nothing to do with statutory law; it relates to economic laws in which people are obliged to absorb the costs of what they do in a rational society.

I don't know of any such proposed ban on cars in California.

You know that you live in the Twilight Zone when the US is a bankrupt warmongering police state and Americans look you in the eye and say that the USA is a peaceful and free country with a balanced budget.

We are neither a bankrupt warmongering police state, nor are we a peaceful free country with a balanced budget.  We're an amalgam of good and bad traits, just like the rest of the world.  The real question: are we better or worse than most other countries, since they are also far less than perfect?

Start there.

Now that the US is a police state, every American should expect to be arrested at some point.
