Births outside marriage by country - Dan '82 - 07-20-2016

The rates seem to be high only in historically Christian, or more precisely Western Christian countries.  Modernization doesn’t seem to be a factor; developed countries that are not historically Christian still have very low non-marital birth rates.  Christianity is the largest religion in Korea but Korea has only Christianized in the last half century.

We Americans are in the middle range of births out of wedlock but have a high percentage of children in single-parent households. Single-parent families include parent-child relationships in which the child has a never-married parent, a widowed parent (which should be rather low in the US because the death rate in America is low, and we don't have large numbers of men in their 50s and 70s having children by much-younger women) , and...
