Account pruning - Webmaster - 06-26-2017

In an effort to reduce profile spam accounts who have a post count of zero will be deleted after 14 days.

RE: Account pruning - radind - 07-04-2017

I have been checking the site ~ weekly  and so far not much has changed in last few months.

RE: Account pruning - pbrower2a - 07-05-2017

Also anything posted in a language other than English by someone not known to use English. I can imagine this site being used by foreign agents as well as by spammers.

RE: Account pruning - David Horn - 12-26-2017

A bit off-topic, because my gripe has to do with thread trimming. scholar seems to be a sincere poster, but his (her?) habit of starting new threads every time a new thought enters his/her head makes using the forum extremely difficult. He/she has pages of threads with no replies, because the initial post was little more than a link. Please close threads that don't generate a response from another poster after 2 days just for housekeeping purposes.

RE: Account pruning - Eric the Green - 12-26-2017

Is there any way to reach Dan/the webmaster?

This is the most important question, isn't it?  We can do nothing, since we have no authority, and Dan seems less engaged as time goes on.  It's a large part of the reason I asked, "Should the forum be ended?"

RE: Account pruning - Eric the Green - 12-27-2017

Yes and it's gotten worse since you asked that question.

RE: Account pruning - Eric the Green - 01-03-2018

Dan/moderators: please ban nebraska and scholar ASAP, and delete all (his) posts and threads.

Nebraska has a world view, is advocating it, but is doing so in a way that is making the forum nigh on unusable.  I would have much less of a problem if he created one thread per issue or just a single 'Intereting Articles' thread.  I am not quite sure the ban is the right tool?

This post alone is a reason to not do that.  I've not seen this "Nebraska", but Scholar seems to be a genuine poster--just annoying one.  If we are to start banning genuine posters for being annoying I say we start with Eric since he's had nothing new to say for decades and seems to think that the best way to induce new topics is to ban those who seem to want to start new topics; also he is not only annoying but quite possibly insane--I blame smoking LSD in the 60s

As for the lack of leadership, I'd volunteer to moderate, but I'm not one to go out of my way to initiate new topics.  Though if appointed you can expect me to follow my general view that the best remedy for bad ideas is free speech.

RE: Account pruning - pbrower2a - 01-06-2018

I tried to show "nebraska" how to gain some credibility...and he changed the subject. He had the basis of a good thread but threw it away.

I cannot by even the most generous expression of leniency suggest that he not be removed. He is a disruptive poster, and not a legitimate participant. I accept that people with a libertarian ideology can post here even if they are 'anal sphincters'... it is theoretically possible for someone to $#!+ out a gem. Theoretically, but unlikely.

If we were to ban everyone who squandered an opportunity we'd have to ban you PBR. You've been given ample opportunities to not be as you are. I'll have to examine the posts by this "Nebraska" before I make a judgement as to his/her/its [apparently I have to be gender neutral now--damn you liberal-PC Corporate cult-ure] character.

PBR, you are an "anal sphincter" and I've yet to see you shit out a gem. Mostly you post some liberal clap trap and then start screaming "Muh Hitler" or "Muh Stalin". I think your problems with those who have a libertarian perspective is that such a perspective is beyond your capacity to understand. After all one needs to do less screaming about "Muh Hitler" or "Muh Stalin" and do some reading.

Believe me, it is as annoying as those whose education in libertarianism ended with learning the phrase "Muh Stateism".

I suggest of course Jefferson, Madison, J.S. Mill and a few others.

RE: Account pruning - Kinser79 - 01-07-2018

I've reviewed "Nebraska's" posts. It seems to me that he is in the same vein of Scholar. Posting a link and leaving it there. Were this my forum I'd call it spam and delete all the threads and warn the user(s) who did that--alas it is not. Perhaps we should have such a rule that simply posting a link to an article or story is spam unless the OP tells us why we should even bother to click the link to read the article or story in question. Just my 2 microbitcoins.

That is pretty much where I put nebraska and scholar myself.  Not a whole lot of discussion there but I still say the Eric the Obtuse and PBR are even more annoying and reading too much of what they write could cause permanent brain damage.

Definitely good choices but one should never leave out the works of Mr. Libertarian.

Just make the spammers go away and I will be happy.

While the idea of having someone do away with Eric the Obtuse is a bit tempting there are a couple of small problems.  The first is free speech is valuable if only so the idiots can show themselves.  The wielding of arbitrary power tends to backfire onto the advocates of such power rather spectacularly.  The Dims in the Senate found this out the hard way last year and I am pretty sure that lesson is still lost on Eric the Obtuse.

Rothbard is most likely beyond PBR's rather limited intellect.

Though I must admit I was rather pleased to find Hoppe in my son's bathroom literature when I was scrubbing toilets the other day. Yeah he probably should clean his own bathroom but neither he, nor my husband, nor my mother ever clean anything to my satisfaction. No I don't have OCD I just like the smell of bleach in a bathroom.

Well, were I to run the forum, yeah the spammers would be gone. I'm not sure how to go about stopping them from joining the forum but posting about viagra and where to buy it in any language would likely result in instaban. And I'd also introduce a rule about those who post links as the OPs of threads...that being it is spam unless the OP also tells us why we should click that link. This would address the Nebraska/Scholar issue as they both post massive amounts of threads with no replies which consist of an OP with just a link in them.

Such posts require neither thought to create, nor warrant a response. I'm simply not clicking a link because someone posts it somewhere--I need a reason to bother. After all my time is valuable, and reading an article from the Guardian or similar communist rag is a waste of my time.

He either has or will get around to reading Rothbard since the modern libertarian movement pretty much started with Rothbard.  You are probably right about PBR's intellectual limitations.

The Mises institute just released a new book on the Progressive Era.  Rothbard has been dead since 1995 and he publishes more than most live authors.  Just leave a copy of Anatomy of the State laying around and your son's curiosity should do the work for you.

Well I think my son has a natural attraction toward libertarianism, almost to the point of being almost an anarcho-capitalist.  Unfortunately I think he's still young enough to be overly idealistic.  The state is a necessary evil so long as other societies have states.

But yeah I've noticed that not even Death has slowed Rothbard's publishing output.  I can only assume that he wrote a great deal that simply was never published in his lifetime.

They are the same person, of course.  I agree that this person is a spammer, but only the moderator can fix that.
