Oh, "justifications" were made. They just weren't very good ones.
In fact, if you were feeling particularly uncharitable, you could refer to them as out and out lies.
The Problem with the iraq war was the flawed objective, the fact that it was a distraction from defeating Bin Laden. Finally the troops were forced by the government to fight with one arm behind their backs.
