Being "Wide Awake" in 1856, getting "Woke" in 2016
#1
In the years leading up to the Civil War there was a progressive movement called the Wide Awakes. Chas mentioned them a few times on the old boards. It struck me today that the same imagery of being "awakened" is being used today by social progressives in the wake of the police shootings of black men. People are talking of "getting woke".

Well he says that during a dionysian saeculum the people are shaken awake. During what I am going through in a Appolonian saeculum he said we are deceived. However keep in mind he is looking at it through modern, dionysian eyes....
People in the future may consider him and his culture to be deceived. Heck even I can see deception running rampant in both parties now!
I have another twist on it from another discussion we both had. Minorities during Appolonian saeculums are just that. Minorities. They feel crushed yet do not have the means to awaken people entirely because there are so few of them. The boomers in these times imo focus on bigger, more pressing cultural issues and settle them in a way that they think works. There is more agreement. It does not address smaller minority issues though.

However in Dionysian saeculums it seems to me (just from observing what the others do) that your boomers focus on all cultural issues, try to fix them but they cannot agree, are too polarized, and put that culture war into POLITICS of all places! Also minorities finally have enough bulk (larger population) to finally have a louder voice and the passion behind it from years of being ignored and trodden on. The culture war in these saeculums never truly ends till the next Appolonian boomers come along bringing mass behind them to really make a difference.

Do not take it too seriously. It was a conversation between myself and Chas and my twist on it too given I am in an Appolonian saeculum (like the great power saeculum in America) and viewing America's Dionysian saeculum from my perspective. Think of our boomers like your missionaries. Us millies like your GI's. You guys would have more in common with even earlier generations who were messier with the culture and less organized.
