Do You Know Anyone With The Virus?
#1
I don't see a better place for this.

Simple question.  You personally.  Do you know anyone who has the virus?

I do not. I've not personally heard of anyone in my "network" that has it.

I have no personal friends, family or acquaintances with the virus, but my wife has several colleagues who have tested positive.  Dental hygiene is the highest risk profession in a situation like this.  Dentists are up there as well, but they control their own fate.  Too many want the income hygienists produce, so they have them working with inadequate PPE.

OK so you know someone who knows someone with it.  That's fair.  This week is supposed to be "to watch" as like the wave is supposed to crash this week.  I am very interested to know and I have lures out in various places to personally get an idea of how ppl are being affected.  My "reach" is not bad in terms of a spider web of others, I am very interested to see if ppl get sick BUT MORE to see if anyone dies.  Not morbidly, but on a scientific level.

On a rather salacious but trusted site, it was claimed 80% of "us" will eventually get the virus.  We have really got to think about that. 80%?  At that point, we must ask "what is the mortality rate"?  Even if half that die, planet earth will never be the same.  It would be an extinction level thing.  If that happens, does any of this now really matter?  Going to the Beyond after cowering in fear?

Ppl keep saying "reality" - what is the REALITY of what I just said?  Some are just not putting this into context at all.

A direct friend has 105 fever and is coughing. It's yet unknown if he is positive or will even be tested.

I would like to stream information here about him as I get it. I thought whether this was insensitive or seemingly "detached" to do that. But that's what scientists do, all things are data but also more. I care about his well-being. We all need to be as informed as possible.

In the last 7 days, this person says he's visited the grocery store twice and has went to his own personal storage unit where others were not present. The symptoms came on over a day or so, then we went to his doctor in an emergency-type visit... which is now a thing here. Certain doctors are choosing (or being mandated?) to be the resident specialist who then takes all patients with potential virus-related issues.

There was first a phone call, with specific questions determining if he was exhibiting symptoms. Then, an "emergency appointment" is made which just means to physically come in and be seen that day, waiting with other potential patients who are exhibiting symptoms that may or may not be virus-related.

Now, that is a little dangerous to me. If you are sick, just sick, and then being forced to wait in close proximity to someone who has this virus, you may become infected.

Academically (which is what this is to any of us right now without direct contact) the mortality rate as described by the news is SO strong, I am not sure I would be willing to take that chance. Everyone must make their own choices.

So, as for this place of interaction, I've not heard anyone speak of having direct contact with someone like this. Just wanted to keep information going.

I had flu symptoms and went to the doctor. I live with my brother and his girlfriend, a survivor of breast cancer. Ordinarily I would not go to a physician about the flu, as it usually incubates, kicks off the immune system, and dies off. It proves to have been an allergy. Waste of time? Not feeling guilty is worth some actions that one normally does not do.

The 105 fever is itself dangerous. I would call social services on him if necessary. Sure, you might lose a friend that way, but better that than losing him to the virus.

Are you going to trust the President or your lying eyes as they read the CDC website?

I went to get some hand sanitizer and had some ugly sneezes while in the store among senior citizens today. At that point I made an appointment with the physician. I got in and I got tested. It is an allergy.

Visits were appointment-only at the doctor's office.

Your friend is putting others at risk. Has he been overseas? Has he been in contact with people who have been overseas?

I now live under circumstances so miserable and with such dreary prospects for improvement in my life that my legitimate concerns are for the lives of others. I am too young to give up but too old to start over. I no longer consider my life precious, as I can make only slight contributions to Humanity and get much less in return. I can at best hope for economic exploitation while being obliged to see my exploiters as the most wonderful benefactors. Happiness in Trump's America is almost entirely material, and what is allowed to most of us is meager.

Call him. Tell him to call an ambulance. The alternative could be death. This is the worst influenza in a century. The 105 fever is itself a high risk.

My friend was treated with antibiotics, diagnosed with pneumonia.

After a day now, he is home, temperature dropped and he feels "better".

BTW for 411: my friend is not very healthy. He's had some surgery and chronic and serious problems. He's also obese.

His physician said IF he has the virus, he may still be transmittable, if he feels better, he will probably continue and not be re-infected HIMSELF.

This is information for those watching or whatever. I'm still interested if anyone shares anyone in their personal "network". Conditions of patient, doctor orders, symptoms, progression, etc.

I feel like THIS ^^ the sharing of personal information can inform us MUCH better than what we hear on TV or the Internet.

If all of us wind up eventually getting the virus and gaining immunity, we can go back to the old normal.  A population drop of a few percent will not kill civilization.  Unless the hospital system is overloaded, the percentage of infected people killed is only a few percent.

The problem is getting to that point without overloading our hospital system.  That would be why we are pushing isolation as hard as we are.  We are trying to slow down reaching the 80% to a level we can handle, trying to keep everyone infected getting first class medical care if they need it, and thus the mortality rate stays low.

Have we switched to me being the optimist while still looking the very real problems in the face?

I'm glad for your friend, except that he still has problems. He needed a wake-up call, and I hope that he heeded it.

Bob, you have the good fortune to live in the Boston area, with so many great medical facilities.  Yes, I know they're stressed, but they're there.  Pick up and move to New Orleans: definitely a different story.  I live in exurbia, where the number of nearby cases is zero -- so far.  At least there are nearby healthcare systems with some real capability, but go 100 miles west of here -- nothing!

It may be that geography and demographics will decide our fate.  Sad.

Agreed, though I just canceled my annual physical in the interests of minimizing contact.   A dental regular cleaning is next.  My strategy is to have as little to do with the great medical facilities as possible.  Good that they are there, though.

Getting your teeth cleaned is actually life threatening.  Lets assume you are well.  Was the previous patient? or the 4 or 5 before that?  The aerosol created hangs in the air for roughly 8 hours.  My dental hygienist wife will not clean any teeth while this is ongoing.  You should cancel.

My friend is OK. That's how 98% of us will do if/when we get the virus... or even less severe or non-symptomatic. Mortality rate as of now is around 2%.

Isn't this really about just waiting until there is a vaccine? Then the mortality rate will be about zero and we can all come out of our caves to normalcy.

My dental appointment was cancelled without a new date.

Not quite. It is about not overloading hospital capacity in the process, so everyone can get the good hospital care so the lethality rate doesn't get higher. This requires some painful isolation which some people are resisting and which in these early days are producing the overload in some places. Most think it is worth it.

You are irritating.  Your responses are continually about trying to correct the posts of others and picking the sand out of pepper.

I am attempting in this thread to relay information about the virus.  Right now, a 2% mortality rate is the number.

After that was levity about emerging from this "isolation".

You are more than irritating. The mortality rate varies significantly by whether you let hospitals be overloaded. They will be if people don't take this seriously, and you regularly attempt to minimize taking the precautions seriously. The answer is not to try to censor people who speak truth.

If Warren can ask about planks in other's eye, surely I can give advice on what to do if you don't like the heat?

Virus + variables = math.

The virus has a 2% mortality rate.  That's the known.

a) ambulance crashes on way to hospital
b) ventilator breaks down
c) hospital explodes from terror attack
d) patient has auto-immune disorder
e) clinic refuses treatment due to lack of insurance

a - e are variables.

The bell has rung.

I DEMAND THE MODERATOR INCREASE MY WARNING LEVEL.  THANK YOU.

oh... you were on ignore but since this forum actually gives you notes that the ignored party has responded, I checked.  And yes, I would like my warning level to permanently exist at 13% forever.  In honor of the virus coming on Friday 13th 2020.  Thank you and now, back to ignored.
