Here is James Howard Kunstler's latest blog post.  He is in rare form as usual:

March 6, 2017

Great Expectations (Not) - KUNSTLER

Typically, for him, the Zombie Apocalypse is just around the corner.  Actually, like a broken clock, he's getting closer all the time to being right.  As I've said before, crises come on slow, slow, and then ignite all at once.  Personally, I think that the second "earthquake" in this Fourth Turning will be a sovereign debt crisis that originates overseas (Eurozone) and washes back on our shores like a tsunami, reversing the direction of the last transatlantic crisis.

What Kunstler does get right is the notion of "Hysterica America."  Martin Armstrong predicted 2017 would be the Political Year from Hell.  Sure looks like it to me.

Not trying to one-up you, Marypoza, just providing an assist.  I'm glad, really, that you began this thread.  Kunstler, for all his crankiness and catastrophism, does have some keen insights at times.  And he spares neither Democrats nor Republicans, both corporate parties of which come in for well-justified criticism for the appalling body politic of America.  Keep posting his blog commentary!

Yeah, I agree, electric cars are really lame.  So, Musk, what power supply is at the other end of the electric gas pump?  I'd guess some coal fired plant.  That means your electric cars are indirectly causing global warming. Besides, look at the price of said electric cars. Kunstler is right here as well. We proles can't afford 'em. Mass transit is the only way out of this mess, sorry.

Electric cars are part of the solution, especially in places that don't use coal; like Califor-nigh-ahy!

The price is coming down on Musk's latest cars. Proles can't afford new cars of whichever variety. They buy them used.

You can have a "war on coal," or a war on the environment (such as our president has declared), but you cannot have both.

We must WIN the war on coal, and change to electric cars.

Uber+shuttles+commuter trains are much better, IMO. I want to be free, free of the ball and chain cars of any sort present. Tax, title, license, maintenance hassles, fuel costs, whatever the type, traffic jams, and the boring chore of driving the damn things. Man, I  loved just leaving the drive to Houston Metro when I lived there. I could take a nap on the way home or read interesting stuff.

Eric, cars are just so 20th century. Set free your imagination to better things. Cars are just another possession.

Always remember and never forget, the more stuff you own, the more that stuff owns you! Cool

It's never too late to get back to the garden.  Rags loves that concept. Simplicity has a beauty unto itself you know.

I see a bus, but no car.  Now that is awesome. Its spring and it's time to plant my garden. Btw, community gardens are an excellent way of opting out of Monsanto/Big Chem/Wal*Fart. Cool

Add, here's the key that lights the path for Rag's horoscope readings.

Astrology stuff that's close: So, now, that rune path is lit, how awesome.

Yes and no.  There was a series of US maps* that showed where each power option was the most cost efficient, least polluting and the most subject to change over time.  In most places, hybrids do best, but in those areas that have the right energy mix, electrics rule.

* I looked for these, and no luck.  They were drawn several years ago, so they may be obsolete.

I didn't see the monstrous plot happening in Michigan.

Anyone still pro-Trump is intellectually suspect. There's just no valid defense of this dreadful person.

-- he lost me when he was fantasizing about a post oil apocalyptic Turtle Island. He has a clear bias against suburbia. Not that l much care 4 suburbia, being a city dweller myself, but l can see certain advantages 2 being caught in suburbia after an apocalypse, such as those large yards which can be used 2 grow food. Not that we city dwellers can't grow our own food if necessary, but we would have 2 get creative about it. He must also be a Trekker bcuz he thinks the best place 2 ride out such an apocalypse is the same place where Zefrem Cochrane invented warp drive- the mountains of Montana where the soil is bad & the growing season short. He writes off the South as a place where deplorables are killing each other w/their guns. He 4gets about Southern Hospitality- as long as ppl aren't encroaching on somebody else's turf, Southerners will probably be cool about it & even help each other along. The growing season is much longer in the South than in Montana, & in addition 2 food, some of those yards could be used 2 grow cotton, which will be useful as clothing fibers start 2 rot from use & age. The South is also home 2 Foxfire, not the browser, but a collection of old timey skills such as cloth spinning & weaving, woodworking, pottery, etc.. which will be useful in rebuilding a civilization. ln short, l read CN articles 4 my own amusement & post them 4 yours. That said l missed this offering when it 1st came out:

https://kunstler.com/clusterfuck-nation/...-show-joe/

l have 2 admit l tend 2 agree w/the 1st 2 paragraphs.  The only poll worth anything is the 1 taking place on Nov 3rd. These other polls can be manipulated by parsing the questions so that whoever's paying 4 the poll gets the results they paid 4. Also their sample sizes are rediculously small- 1000 ppl or (usually) less out of a potential 150,000,000 voters. Those ppls can also be manipulated- 4 instance if l tell them l'm not a Dem they'll say "thank you" & click. *Likely voters* are the jokers of the pack- they may or may not show up 2 vote. Meanwhile Orange Thang has a rabid cult following that will turn out in a blizzard 2 vote 4 him- if they think he's *behind* they will double down & get everybody they know & then some 2 turn out & vote 4 their gawd.  lnfact l think those fake polls & media hype actually help the Orange Thang- ppl who dislike him who also but don't want 2 vote 4 a senile old child molester will vote alternative, leave the top line blank, or just stay home

as 4 the rest of the article-- pure amusement
