Humans have been cracking bones open for marrow far longer than wolves have been domesticated. What the wolves got was the excess lean meat that humans couldn't digest, wolves having larger livers and kidneys relative to their body weight. The humans probably kept the fat for themselves; humans can survive fine on meat only if the meat is fatty enough.
