The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was I see it South Africa's own version of the Nuremberg trials. South Africa's state Broadcaster SABC showed 99 episodes from 1996 to 1998 about the proceedings of the TRC entitled 'Special Report'.
The 1980s and early 1990s were a very dark time for South Africa and much of the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa. Rwandan genocide was only one of the truly horrific episodes that occurred in Sub-Saharan Africa approximately from 1975 to 1995.
One thing I have noticed from knowing sub-Saharan Africans who were born in the 1970's and 1980's, is how much they fear a return to the bad old days of their childhood. For South Africans this would be a 'race war' happening, which did occur in their childhood.
