All three crises can be attributed in varying degrees to a pattern of unpreparedness. But there remain missing links, at least in my mind, as to how a Global War on Terror leads on directly to the Great Recession, and then to a public health crisis, twelve years later. I can only make a weak case connecting 9/11 to the 2007 housing bust, which I would base on the “advice” Bush II gave us in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
What all three crises have in common and connects them to the aging saeculum is that they are all consequences of openness and free flows, whether of capital or of people.
Exactly! The Neoliberal philosophy on the "left" paired with the Neocon and libertarian philosophies on the right have elevated unrestricted market capitalism to an undeserved god-like status. We're nearing the point where the model collapses into anarchy or authoritarianism, because it can't maintain itself by convincing the less informed that they are all doing great. It's finally dawning that few of us are, and only a small percentage of that group is really hauling it in.
