He looses, you loose over half the country and the majority of the land as well.

Unless I'm living in your alternate reality, I have a hard time seeing how rural America can flourish on its own.  Yes, you'll have the land and no assets to develop it -- big empty areas for grazing and raising crops.  The plains states may have a future in wind and solar energy, but you don't believe in that stuff, do you?
