Once in a while, most recently with Bush 43's Iraq war, the Guard winds up used as an army reserve and abroad. That is hopefully rare.
Today? I have wondered if for some reason Trump might nationalize some red state's Guard, likely with a red governor and a red adjutant general commanding the Guard. An unlikely scenario, but it could bypass the ranking Pentagon's refusal to fight America.
