It may be more a feature of the old sort of conservatism, but some conservatives found it possible to reject anti-black bigotry as contrary to a cohesive America necessary for confronting a real threat (aggressive Communism), and today they might find LGBT rights acceptable because LGBT people threw the child-abusing perverts under the bus and because homophobia is inconsistent with law and order.
