I guess illegal immigrants and financial/political contributions from groups associated with it are more important to liberals than American minorities and other American groups of people whom they still claim to represent.
Let's suppose that the local police bust some couple who have an active meth lab and a child. Beyond any question it is right to separate the child from the meth-cookers. The meth lab is itself dangerous and drug activity of any kind is poor influence on children. Usually the child can be placed with reliable people -- perhaps grandchildren -- while the horrid parents are processed through the legal system. "Clear and present danger" is obvious enough.
Now what does that have to do with illegal immigration other than that a statute is violated?
There is no big money behind protecting illegal immigration as there is for pushing guns or destroying labor unions.
The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated Communist but instead the people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists -- Hannah Arendt.
