That's not surprising, really. Reagan had a sunny personality and cheerful way about him. That he also thought the neoliberal dogma was the delivered truth (I do think that's the case, btw) guaranteed that the sale would go through. When a first-class salesman sells his beliefs, assume the sale every time.
