Let's make fun of Trump, bash him, etc. while we can!

I haven't checked Alec Baldwin's horoscope score. We have fallen so far, we might as well have Trump run against Trump!

Score 15-10

7 of his negative points come from a grand trine between Mercury, Saturn and Pluto; which by theory isn't supposed to be bad, but scores poorly empirically (Sanders has two of these aspects also). Also, his other three negative points come from Jupiter sextile Saturn in the same grouping; also theoretically good but empirically horrible.

I cannot be too naive however. I wonder how much influence Trump will have on the media moguls who employ a lot of the press corps?

I guess this is why he's going to the inauguration, although he didn't go to his convention:

[Image: Borowitz-BushCountingDownDaysUntilHeisNo...ry-690.jpg]

DALLAS (The Borowitz Report)—Former President George W. Bush is eagerly counting down the days until he is no longer the worst President in U.S. history, Bush confirmed on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at his home, Bush said that he “could hardly wait” until Friday, when he will be officially bounced from the worst-President slot.

“I have to admit, I never thought I’d see this day in my lifetime,” the former President said. “When you leave office with the nation in smoldering ruins, you sort of come to accept that you’re gonna be worst for a long, long time.”

“I guess you could say I set the bar kind of high, worst-wise,” he chuckled.

As the returns came in on Election Night, however, the former President suddenly realized that his days as the worst President in U.S. history might be coming to an abrupt end.
“Holy cow,” Bush remembered saying to himself. “Just holy cow.”

While Bush recognizes that many Americans are dreading Friday’s Inauguration, he said he hoped that they could “sort of understand” why he might see things differently.

“To be honest, Friday can’t come fast enough for me,” he said. “I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas.”

You know, we had to sit through eight years of birth certificate attacks?  I have a feeling that the Democrats will have a lot more variety for Trump.  It won't end the stagnation and partisanship, but it might be more entertaining.

Not a bad outline of the press's duties, privileges and responsibilities.  What sort of response am I expecting?

The President of the United States, as part of his Executive Powers, has the right to ridicule, attack and harass anyone who disagrees with him.

In the modern age of Twitter, the notion of a press pool is obsolete.  The office once called 'Press Secretary' shall be referred to as 'Twitter Secretary'.

The building that currently holds the Press Pool once held a swimming pool.  The pool room is to be returned to its original context.

I could go on, I don't know that he will try to run the country as he ran his campaign, but I'm trying to wait until after Trump has started to actually do stuff...

I'm not trying to wait, of course. There is zero chance that he will not run the country as he ran his campaign. So far, it has been far worse, in fact; given his appointments which are anything but "populist." Most of the press and pundits I have heard agree. And to say he hasn't "started to actually do stuff" is incredibly blind, given his appointments, which are the worst made by any elected leader ever.

Trump going swimming? That would create quite a splash! I don't disagree with your other statements. Unless Trump can threaten, harass and outright restrict the press, the way LBJ pressured CBS over the Smothers Brothers show, then both the press and today's social media outlets who oppose Trump will find ways to report what's going on. The problem is also, of course, the people, and how easily they have been deceived. Half the country just doesn't get what's going on at all, and are willfully ignorant.

I'll wait another day or seven. I figure there are enough folks piling on that I won't be missed.

I like 'conned' better than 'willfully ignorant', but won't argue very much.

After the swearing in, he will have different goals. I expect the nature of the con to change. I have a sense that he will be looking for more than a four year stay, in which case he has to keep folks conned. And yet... his appointments? He's suggesting that Trumpcare will be more inclusive, less expensive, higher quality... and how he could get that through a Republican Congress I don't know. He hasn't the people skills, he hasn't the experience, yet he has enough of an ego to think he can solve any problem with really blatant lies and a surplus of bombast. He seemed to think more aggressive use of the military could fix some problems. He promised more borrow and spend trickle down, which scares me.

Anyway, go ahead, keep posting for the next day or so. I don't like it either, but I'm saving my ammunition until I see how his style will adapt to actually having power to abuse.

He may end up as a say a lot, do nothing PotUS.

That would be my fond hope, for the next four years at least, if he makes it that far. We've had a whole lot of those in recent years. I expect the main difference, in that case, would be how much smoke and fire his "saying" belches forth.

I mean, beyond Reagan doing a whole lot of destruction, what has any US president done (or been able to do) since Nixon? Nothing much, beyond starting or continuing wars we didn't need.

-- somewhere on this board is a thread talking about a cycle of decline that started with Ronnie Raygun & now appears to be climaxing with the Donald, & it got me thinking that they are like bookends: a washed up actor started this crappy cycle & now it looks like a reality star is gonna finish it

ps Eric- you're FIRED!!  Tongue

Sort of fights with the notion that Hollywood is on the Democrat's side...  Wink

But it's good to still see some signs of 'optimism'.  'Climaxing' with Donald?  Does this mean the perspectives and desires of the rural / Republican population can't result in someone worse than Donald?  A reasonable assumption, perhaps...

-- l wish l could find that thread.  They were comparing this crappy cycle to the New Deal cycle. Hoover was the last gasp of the previous cycle, which resulted in Roosevelt's election & implementation of the New Deal, which continued on with LBJ's Great Society, & it's last gasp was Jimmy Carter. This resulted in Ronnie Raygun who ushered in the voodoo trickle down cycle, which should be seeing it's last gasp with the Donald, & the next prez will start a new cycle. l used climaxed bcuz do we really know if this is the end? According to S&H we s/b in full blown crisis mode in 2020, so l can see why the next prez s/b be a transformative one (ie, starting a new cycle) but we ain't there yet. lt seems logical to me but l'm hedging my bets, just the same

Republicans in western states also had their roles, advocating the incarceration of Japanese-Americans and legal-alien Japanese for alleged reasons of 'security' concerns. Part of the motivation was to compel such people to sell desirable property (such as farms, businesses, and houses at fire-sale prices.

Ironically, General Douglas MacArthur rejected such a proposal in Hawaii because such would disrupt the Hawaiian economy in which the   Japanese-Hawaiian community played a large role. MacArthur would have stepped on any civil liberties that got in the way of his military objectives.

By the way -- he is also part of a group that has been treated roughly for no valid reason. He's gay.
The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated Communist  but instead the people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists -- Hannah Arendt.

Anyone
who is interested in human rights, progress and/or justice, will support that party today more than the alternative, although throwing party labels around, as if one party was always right decades ago, is easier than understanding the truth of what George Takei and other voices for freedom and justice are saying today.

Maybe, but you haven't proven that.

Anyway, tinkle tinkle still fits for a practitioner like Trump of tinkle-down economics.
