Careers ruined or at risk from accusations of sexual misconduct
#81
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A first-term Republican state representative resigned Wednesday after an ex-girlfriend claimed that he posted nude photos of her on a fake social media account under her name. Rep. Nick Sauer of Lake Barrington tendered a letter of resignation Wednesday afternoon to the House clerk's office.

CBS Chicago reports the freshman lawmaker—a member of the House Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Task Force–didn't get through his first term in the legislature before revenge porn allegations came to light Wednesday, ending his career prematurely.

The 35-year-old Sauer, elected in 2016 after serving more than a year on the Illinois Toll Highway Authority board as an appointee of Gov. Bruce Rauner, did not return phone, email or text messages seeking comment Wednesday.

Politico reported Wednesday that a Chicago woman claims that Sauer, who was seeking election to a second term in November, set up a fake Instagram account with her name and posted explicit photos of her to bait other men into conversations with him. Politico said the woman filed complaints with Chicago police and the legislative inspector general.

Sauer wrote in his letter that he was stepping down "as a result of the allegations by ... a former girlfriend." He named the woman, but The Associated Press has a policy of not naming women who allege they are victims of sexual misconduct.

"My ability to fulfill my obligations as a state representative and public servant will be affected by the distraction of addressing these allegations," Sauer wrote.

House Minority Leader Jim Durkin immediately announced that Sauer would be relinquishing his seat. Asked at an event in Chicago, Rauner agreed that Sauer should resign.

CNN said Wednesday evening that Paris Dennard has been suspended from his commentary role, pending an examination of the allegations against him in a Wednesday Washington Post story.
The Post reported that Dennard was fired from a job at Arizona State University "for making sexually explicit comments and gestures toward women."

The Post obtained a copy of an ASU report that described the university's 2014 internal investigation into Dennard's conduct. According to the newspaper, the report "describes a series of inappropriate incidents often initiated by Dennard with the two women in 2013 and 2014."

The investigation found that Dennard had committed "serious misconduct," according to the Post.

Later, Dennard became a high-profile surrogate for the Trump campaign, appearing frequently on television and in other forums. He is well known to CNN viewers as a political commentator for the network, and for his staunch defenses of President Trump.

Earlier, he told the Post that he believes the allegations made against him at ASU are "false."

"This is sadly another politically motivated attempt to besmirch my character, and shame me into silence for my support of President Trump and the GOP," he told the newspaper.

Ex-Mistress Accuses Longtime RNC Leader Elliott Broidy Of Physical, Sexual Abuse, Complaint Shows

The former Playboy model also says in the complaint that the major Republican donor thought Donald Trump was “an idiot.”

Shera Bechard, a former Playboy Playmate who had a four-year affair with former Republican National Committee Deputy Chairman Elliott Broidy, says he subjected her to physical and sexual abuse and that he exposed her to herpes. These allegations are in a complaint that remains sealed under court order in a lawsuit filed by Bechard contending that Broidy ceased making payments on a $1.6 million hush money agreement.

The complaint contains significant allegations about Broidy’s sexual and medical history and his relationship with President Donald Trump. Bechard says that Broidy called the president “an idiot, who could not even pronounce the names of countries correctly” but that Broidy “admired Mr. Trump’s uncanny ability to sexually abuse women and get away with it.”

Bechard also alleges that Broidy was emotionally abusive and told her that she couldn’t date or be seen with other men, and that he wanted her financially dependent on him. She also says in the complaint that Broidy told her she was “fat and needed to fix it” and pushed her to undergo liposuction.

Broidy’s attorneys have told the court that the allegations partially detailed in this story needed to be stricken from the complaint because they weren’t material to the lawsuit and involved Broidy’s personal health and medical information.

In a statement sent to HuffPost, Broidy said:

“This person tried to extract money from me by making up false, malicious and disgusting allegations. I have acknowledged making the mistake of having an affair, and I entered a confidential agreement to protect my family’s privacy. I honored my agreement until her lawyer breached it—and then, when I failed to pay her demands, she did what blackmailers do and went public with her lies. I will vigorously defend myself against these false and defamatory allegations, and I will seek all relief available to me under the settlement agreement against her and her attorneys.”

A spokeswoman for Stris & Maher, the firm that represents Bechard, said in a statement late Friday: “Elliott Broidy continues to viciously attack our client, Shera Bechard, in the press — this time because a judge found his legal arguments for secrecy unavailing and because his own lawyers failed to do their jobs. We will not be intimidated as we work to vindicate our client’s rights.”

Bill Cosby: 3 to 10 years. And it is not a contract for a TV show.

Quote:Less than two hours after being designated a sexually violent predator, Bill Cosby has been sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison by a Pennsylvania judge after being convicted for the 2004 rape of former Temple University employee Andrea Constand.
Cosby will serve “no less than three years and no more than 10 years,” Judge Steven O’Neill said Tuesday, adding that the actor also must pay a fine and court costs.

The ruling comes nearly three years after the much accused actor once known as “America’s Dad” was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Constand. With Cosby sitting in the Norristown, PA courthouse, the long-expected decision comes six months after a jury found Cosby guilty of all three counts in a retrial.

Almost as soon as the sentence was read, Cosby’s lawyers moved to have a motion for bail pending appeal, which was denied. In a case that has seen frequent efforts by various defense attorneys to pause or stop the proceedings, the initial move seemed to annoy O’Neill and the Montgomery County D.A.’s office, the latter referring to it as “nonsense and show.”

Dr. Blasey Ford describes Kavanaugh's sexual assault on her. Will his career be "ruined" by this?

Denying sexual assaults is typical. That's what Kavanaugh is doing. Lying to congress disqualifies a supreme court nominee.

I find myself wondering of Kieth Ellison will have his career ended for abusive behavior, for which there is actual evidence?  Interesting that the Dims are pretty much silent on this.

Yup, it could be that what's good for the blue goose is good for the red gander.  Cool   Who knows, #MeToo may end up being a wild goose and gander chase.

The problem is that the Trump regime and his GOP stooges can steamroller someone like Kavanaugh into the Supreme Court. This is what happens when the majority Party, even if it has but a shaky majority, acts with blind obedience instead of conscience, when it acts with contempt for due process in the name of power.

You can thank Harry Reid for this.  As usual the Dims didn't see this coming because on the whole they are incapable of thinking more than one step ahead in the game.  He was warned not do it so quit your bitching and enjoy the consequences.

No due process if you are not a Dim since they will do nothing about Keith Ellison who did abuse women and there is actual evidence for that.  Here is what Pat Buchanan has to say about this.  He is not a libertarian but he does often have some useful insights.

I mentioned this to our resident shrink. The #MeToo movement is no different than any other. Look at the movement for civil rights. It's 150 years in the making, and we're still not there. One reason is the tendency of all successful movements to overreach. Who can blame the oppressed for being even the slightest bit vengeful. Of course, the waiting-to-be-offended on the other side will jump at the first indication that, "... they have gone too far." Cynical? Of course. Effective? TBD.

#MeToo advocates need to be ready for effective pushback. Kavanaugh seems to be a safe target, because he's not all that likeable and a bit self righteous. Ellison seems to be an easy target as well. That won't always be true. Until then, the knives are out.

Somewhat off topic, but very germane to your comment: the prisons are full of mostly non-white prisoners who got there because they lack power. As we've seen repeatedly, many are innocent; the estimate of the percentage of convicted innocents is 2% overall, with most of them poor and non-white. Some are released because of DNA evidence or something equally compelling, but that begs the question. Obviously, many are still imprisoned and unable to do anything to save themselves. Do you think they got "due process", or were they railroaded into taking pleas because they couldn't fight the charges?

Now, the hard part: how many of those innocents are incarcerated in Red states? Hint: Texas is estimated to have between one third and half of them. One state!

The Senate Judiciary Committee chose to ask the FBI for more of a background on  Bret Kavanaugh... which left-leaning Lawrence O'Donnell praised for demonstrating that the American political process works best when it is inefficient enough to slow the processes that could bring momentous change.

Yes, I do not want another reactionary in the Supreme Court, but elections have consequences, and we the American swine who voted for Donald Trump and Reactionary majorities in both Houses of Congress and most state legislatures deserve such. People who vote for Donald Trump deserve to return to his idea of American greatness, a time in which seventy-hour workweeks and forty-year lifespans were the norm for industrial workers, farm laborers, retail clerks, and miners.  The problem is that the children of such people deserve far better because they are innocent of such folly. America became better than Trump's idea of national greatness because Americans got better, made the appropriate sacrifices, and got better. Nothing could force such better than the Great Depression that demonstrated that the economic elites of the 1920s had failed catastrophically. Nothing could so discredit the gutter racism pervasive in Western Christian Civilization as could its most vehement expression in Adolf Hitler, and America at its best did its share to defeat the vilest cause to have ever existed.

Should Bret Kavanaugh be rejected (or withdraw his nomination), then Donald Trump will find some other reactionary who believes that women are little more than baby-factories and that 95% of the people exist to suffer for 2% of the American people. We do not need a drunkard in the Supreme Court, we do not want someone who expresses hyper-partisan conspiracies that have him as the focus of a sinister plot, and we do not want someone so devoid of a moral compass that he can trivialize a sexual assault that he may be proved to have done. Above all we do not need a jurist who believes that he can sacrifice stare decisis (the key judicial doctrine that states that legal precedent must hold even when such is inconvenient -- indeed, especially when such is inconvenient) for the transitory advantage of the political leadership of the time. This man does not have the temperament to be a Justice of the US Supreme Court.

Maybe good cause exists for the Senate Judiciary Committee allowing a one-week window fr investigating allegations of sexual misconduct. Donald Trump got power in accordance with existing structures in American politics, and we are stuck with the results. We the American swine, who have devoured the pearls cast in front of our shouts, deserve the worst that Donald Trump does. We deserve oppression  by people who think of the common man as livestock at best and vermin at worst. Don't fool yourself about the heirs, the executives, and the political operatives who rule us at least until January 2019 and have great power until at least January 2021. They have nearly everything, and we can expect to have nothing more than what they think will make those elites richer and more powerful while securing their positions of dominance and wealth. Those elites would set up Nazi-style labor (if not extermination, which would kill off workers that they need) camps if they could get away with it to maximize exploitation.

Bret Kavanaugh is someone with which I would have no trust in defining what due process is.

With all the damning information it really was a miracle that Kavanaugh got accepted to sit on the nation's highest court. The only reason I could think of that this could have possibly happened was that apparently there wasn't sufficient evidence that he was actually the one who performed the dastardly deed, which if proven was much worse than what Clarence Thomas was accused of before he was seated. Meantime, more and more Catholic priests are being accused of sexual misconduct and barred from the priesthood. And, both Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein have pretty much gone down in flames along with the likes of Matt Lauer.

I recently asked a psychic reader for her take on movements such as #MeToo and Black Lives Matter, and she seems to think that they will be as fleeting as the Occupy movement was. We shall see.

It would seem that the second Kavanaugh accuser was in fact lying and has been referred to the Justice Department for prosecution.  Makes me wonder how many of the others are just making shit up to get attention or to achieve a certain political outcome?

I didn't need a psychic reader to tell me that #MeToo and Black Lives Matter were strictly short term movements.  Useful as political tools for the Dims until they blew their credibility which seems to have happened with everyone but the true believers.

Sure, we can all trust the Master Class to know what is best for us peons in the new serfdom of their elite dreams -- about as we can trust an alcoholic with keys to the liquor cabinet. Just look at the labor policy of Nazi Germany, where strikes were outlawed, employers could refer any worker not meeting quotas to a labor camp where he would be worked to exhaustion on starvation wages until he learned that working to exhaustion on the lowest industrial wages in Europe was indeed a blessing -- or died of overwork on starvation rations or was executed in the labor camp.

This is less known than the genocide and slavery of Nazi Germany, and it was the basis of the economic miracle of the Third Reich.

Don't fool yourself. America's elites of ownership and management are no better than the feudal lords of medieval Europe or the exploitative nomenklatura of the state serfdom of the old Soviet Union. Karl Marx had the delusion that ownership was the basis of exploitation; bureaucratic power can do the trick, too.

But we are only three days away from finding out how much Americans love the owners and managers who utterly dominate American political life now. Make America Great Again -- but only for about 2% of the people, with 3% being so talented that what country they live in makes little difference?

Much wisdom lies in the old saying, "Never let the Perfect be the enemy of the Good". This applies not only to the radical extremist of the Left (such as a follower of Trotsky or Mao) but also to the reactionary who seeks to restore an idyllic past. Sure, there were business opportunities in those days no longer available because Big Business has closed the gaps in the economic system, and real estate was less expensive in real terms when fewer people were in America. We cannot bring that back in a way that anyone could accept. We can achieve a nightmare.
