Having seen how civil servants work, or rather fail to, it is clear that they are lazy, stupid and a dead weight on society. Consider this little gem from your progressive paradise. Apparently it was easier to ignore the problem than to deal with it. Anyone want to bet this would not have gone on for three years in the private sector.
Yes. Reds associate government service with inefficiency or corruption. Blues associate the private sector with removing wealth from the People and directing it to the elites. There is more than a little truth in both, and cleaning up either would leave the other a problem. Checks and balances would be a good thing.
There is the other issue too. Both sectors share many of the bad traits of the other, because they both consist of human beings, with human foibles. At the moment, we've denigrated public work for so long, that many quality people who would enter public service have been chased away. It wasn't always like that. Banking had a similar bad odor in the 1940s and 50s. Not surprising: it's a cyclical phenomenon.
