Sometimes I think that the straw man argument has become the primary mode of political discourse.
In 74.5 years of life, I've NEVER been up-braided for telling a woman that she appears to be attractive.
In fact, during part of my education in a course on Organization Management, we were shown convincing evidence that money comes in a poor second to recognition as a motivator of human behavior.
Just for the sake of argument, if society evolved somehow so that a large fraction of the folks began to think that complimenting someone is too forward or too intrusive or something, then the civil thing to do would be to dial it back. However, I don't think we are anywhere near such. No doubt, someplace on the InterWebs, there's a woman shrieking about being complimented. Doesn't mean it's really an issue though. I'll wait for more evidence.
