That said, Wikipedia is not what it used to be; it's being taken over by administrators to the detriment of editors, and that's causing editors to leave.

The problem with Wikipedia, is the same as the problem with most crowd-funded nonprofit efforts: money.  The Internet Capitalist Class should dedicate 1% of profits to fund this and other nonprofit Internet alternatives, and be done with it.  Why should this always fall to the struggling middle and lower classes.  That said, I've contributed many times, and get solicited even more often, while the big boys get the benefit of riding its coattails, and focusing their efforts on pure profit.
