The Economic Order Of Post-Modernity?

Its contributors are all volunteers and its coordinators are meritocrats, selected from the most productive users. Despite being a non-profit, it's now the world's most popular and extensive encyclopedia.

But I also think we need to leave the Earth to leave capitalism, just like our ancestors had to leave Europe to leave feudalism.

It sounds fun and all, but where are we going to go? There's not really much suitable land in our solar system, even considering how much trouble it would be to terraform it. Other possible places to go depend on breaking the light barrier. In which case, it's a real possibility that we have been visited by ETs who can only get here by doing this.

That implies that your solution probably involves being helped (or hurt) by them, and adapting to their galactic federation and their ways of being.

Many of our ancestors left Europe to leave feudalism, broadly defined as a rigid class system under monarchy. But remember, Europe went through a revolution parallel in time to ours, and they now have the most advanced social and political systems on the planet.

So maybe we don't have to leave Earth to move beyond our current economic system, but can have some kind of new revolution; not necessarily Marxist in goal or method. A revolution that embraces and preserves the Earth and learns from its ways.
