The rates seem to be high only in historically Christian, or more precisely Western Christian countries. Modernization doesn’t seem to be a factor; developed countries that are not historically Christian still have very low non-marital birth rates. Christianity is the largest religion in Korea but Korea has only Christianized in the last half century.
