I don't think air conditioners themselves are the problem; they are actually very essential to human lives. Without them, people would not be able to live in warmer climates. Why else do you think millions of people are flocking to the South? Air conditioners are a must there, so I've heard. It would be very hot and uncomfortable without air conditioning. However, the links you shared say the members of the climate conference John Kerry went to are working on an amendment to eliminate the harmful chemicals in air conditioners.
