There are still some Americans alive today who will tell you that freedom is better.
Please, move to South Dakota, where being free is paramount, COVID be damned. Next year, let us know how it went.
You mean the state that is doing better than CA on cases and deaths as well as throwing out further immunizations than New York?
All this red state/blue state nonsense with regard to COVID is nothing more than tribalistic, us vs. them thinking to distract people from realizing that we don't actually have good, solid data on what factors inhibit or promote spread beyond some very general parameters. Most of the rules being tossed out are based on the precautionary principle or 'feelings' about what should work and are done because the one thing politicians can't do is admit they don't have as a much control over things as they want. It allows them to answer the public's demand for 'something must be done.' Are they right? Are they wrong? Truth is, we probably don't know and won't know for awhile.
Around a decade from now, some ambitious Ph.D. candidates will be able to trawl through the data sets and come up with some actual answers. Until then, we are all just bumbling along but, because this somehow became a tribalistic identifier of moral superiority, we all have to be brainwashed into thinking one side or the other is right and therefore the other side is killing grandma or destroying freedom.
You get no argument from me on pointing-out stupid wherever it lives. The NY Times has an interactive COVID Risk map on their homepage, and almost the entire country rates Extremely High Risk.
