Arnold Rothstein (1882-1928), corrupt gambler who promoted the Black Sox scandal

Jack Tatum (1948-2010) is another "bad apple" in sports. He was infamous for being a hard hitter, most notably with the incident that left Darryl Stingley paralyzed (this maybe why he is not in the NFL Hall of Fame).
