I saw a report of the sentencing phase, and he had plenty of aggravating factors (especially a high level of premeditation). He still had to undergo the assessment of such factors, and he may have saved himself a death sentence by pleading guilty.

.... we can add some nasty people from the plot to assassinate Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and of course the Capitol Putsch, but so far none of those are there. No names should be added until we have a conviction (unless you are to add Ashli Bobbitt).
