I am not convinced that technology drives culture unless giving a new medium (such as photography, cinema, radio, animation, television, computers, or electronic instruments). People largely do what they did before with the old technology... they simply use a new medium.
You use your e-mail much like a telegraph, the difference being that a telegram is an expensive way in which to communicate and that an e-mail is so cheap to send that it is an excellent means of sending bulk messages (spam).
And, yes, this is still someone who should be quite familiar:
... because the fellow was born in 1685, and he still ... rocks!
