This forum looks like a worthy successor to the original forum.
Thanks.

It's a good forum, but there's a time limit apparently on editing or deleting a post. Bummer.
Also, the quote button does not seem to work.
OK I see you have to look way down at the bottom, and then it also quotes all subsequent replies. The older method is better where you press quote, and then the post comes up and you can just reply to it. But I don't know how much control or input you have to this system.
On special topics being a light-hearted lounge, I guess all other topics must be fit into one of the other categories? No miscellany.

Yes, it is a bummer. It means when you make a wrong prediction you can't back edit your posts to be always right.

The quote button works fine. You just have to be smarter than the software. Oh wait, forgot who I was talking to.

If you're using a quick reply, hit the button that says show quotes now. Problem solved.

Again sounds like my argument for a mudpit forum where just about anything goes. Of course that depends on what moderation considers "light hearted". I read that, and thought "boring".

I checked the limit now for editing posts is now 60 minutes, if the membership would like I can increase the limit or eliminate it completely. I know that on the old forums some people didn't like it when posts were edited after they'd been replied to. I don't want to allow people to delete threads because then they'd be deleting other people's posts in addition to their own.
When you hit quote, an option to show the quoted material shows up just above the "post reply" button in the quick reply field.

I have no strong opinion on the edit feature other than I would disapprove of allowing indefinite editing of posts. Depending on how stringent the forum rules are it could be an invitation to trouble. That said I think a maximum of two hours is sufficient should someone think of something worthwhile to add to a post. The preview post feature works just fine.
Same with deletion, people could violate a rule, end up with it reported and then delete it before one of the mods gets on to check it out.

I liked the old edit function to change 'typos'( or left out words, such as NOT). I don't always review in the next hour. More of a random process.
This is not a big deal, since the meaning is still clear most of the time.

We should definitely be able to edit a post indefinitely, as before, or as long as possible. Things are forgotten, and misspellings can be seen much later. Making a post more readable is a good thing. If a poster says something (s)he regrets later because it's uncivil, we should be able to correct that too. Why not? It's a bit strange that the least civil person on this board should want an uncivil post to stay up so a moderator can catch it.

Another thing; I have never understood why any forum sends you to a page telling you that your post has been posted and if you don't want to wait to return to the forum, click here. I don't know why we don't just go back to what we have posted, as on the old forum. But I don't know if this can be changed. Thanks for your consideration.

That's to prevent double posting and to so that people will know about password changes and registrations.

I just disabled them, they increase server load and I didn't like them either.

Great; thank you Sir Dan
One good thing I like is how pictures get posted automatically from some quoted articles. Less work to get them posted here.

We could really use an "evil grin" emoji. Considering we have one for lots of other things that I can't even understand in what context they could be used.

Did Neil Howe ever put up a link on the T4T website to this new forum?

Where would we put a new obituaries category, and other miscellaneous special topics?

No, I tweeted to him about but he didn't put anything up.

Obit threads have been started in most of the relevant forums. What other type of topic do you want post about?

I'll see if I can find one, the emojies came from a pack I downloaded, I added the NZ flag one for Tara. I'll find an evil grin one then upload it next time I'm on FTP.

I liked having one obit thread. It was a good place to go to see who passed on, or to let people know. Several threads will not serve that purpose. I don't know what other topics I'd like to post about, but I'm sure there are special topics that are not "light hearted," as there were on the other forum. I don't really understand the need to keep the special topics forum "light-hearted."

IIRC there's a horoscope thread that's light hearted.

I'll put up a post on obituaries. I want to have a forum where we avoid contentious subjects, hopefully it will remove some of tension forum the forum. If needed I can create another forum for more contentious subjects.
