Seizing firearms after someone is treated for mental illness? Considering that about a year and a half ago I made thinly-veiled references to suicide in a rough time, it would have happened to me. Everything fell apart, and my life is not fully back in order. It might never be.

I should not be in possession of a firearm, even if I were a sport hunter.

I am not free if I am in fear of a madman's firearms, bombs, or poison. The Second Amendment has its militia clause, and I interpret that clause to suggest that people who can never be a part of a militia due to moral turpitude, drunkenness or other intoxication, criminality, lunacy, or idiocy to have no right to bear arms.

Some Americans may have thought that tyranny would never come to the US because the rich, celebrities, media, politicians, and American people would resist.

Who would have thought that the rich would loot the country by getting bailouts and subsidies while being the ones conspiring and building the police state by paying actors, singers, and atheletes to distract Americans with bread and circuses, using reporters to push propaganda, real crises, and false flags, and buying off and corrupting politicians with campaign donations and cushy job promises to start wars, import refugees that weaken and divide the US, drive up the debt, make laws that enslave Americans, and throw crumbs to pacify the 99% in the form of food stamps, Obamacare, Obamaphones, and public housing?

The destruction of the USA is nearly complete.

It is still advantageous to work so that one can more fully participate in the consumer society. I have been on food stamps, and one can live reasonably well on them so long as one avoids junk food. I have been able to buy such luxuries as strawberries and asparagus -- by rejecting potato chips. If not on food stamps I would buy some wine and beer -- and still lay off potato chips.

But this said, the only good public housing is for the elderly. Housing subsidies otherwise keep slumlords afloat with rent vouchers to poor people. Obamacare? I got it for a simulated coronary, and once I found that I simply had a terrible backache I asked for physical therapy and got it. It worked well. The medical problem that we have is a system of payments that depends upon a for-profit bureaucracy (talk about creating incentives to not control costs!) and monopolization in the pharmaceutical industry. It is as if we decided that the best way to solve our problems of transportation were to jack up the costs of automobiles and motor fuels -- and promote profit-maximizing toll roads. The difference would be that people would be priced into immobility instead of the grave.

An Obamaphone? The idea was to ensure that people out of work have a cell phone so that they can have a phone number that a potential employer can call. Once employed at a living wage, someone with such a phone will likely be in the market for a free-market phone that costs $1000 to buy and has a $100-a-month data plan far more useful  than an obsolete phone that looks like a cigarette pack. The consumer economy is far more attractive.

People need bread. They do not need circuses. Maybe if people got real educations they would recognize the shallowness of most popular entertainment and would find better use for their leisure time than sitting in front of an idiot screen  watching televised sports while devouring chips and mass-market beer. I have known people like that -- a fellow who got into the 400s (in pounds) and died at age 48... he apparently had never cracked a book since he was obliged to do so in high school. Ideally people are able to support themselves on their income, and if they do reasonably well they can choose where they live, what they wear, and what they consume.

Perhaps it is time to consider the possibility that the both major parties are opposite wings of the the same bird of prey.

Firearms are only for responsible owners and users.

To the extent that divesting troubled people of their firearms, even if temporary in the event that someone brings up the topic of suicide let alone permanently in the event of someone committing a crime, such is fitting and proper.

If you think that America is safe from concentration camps just because so many Americans own firearms -- Nazi Germany was awash in privately-held firearms. Seemingly every Nazi Party member had them. The Soviet Union had relatively-liberal laws on firearms so long as one was on good terms with the Communist Party.

Firearms do not prevent the Gulag or the KZ-Lager.

One of the reasons the US is collapsing now is that Americans think that decay will be stopped by becoming Fascists and Communists.

Americans think the US will be improved by expanding wars, increasing the debt, and adding more tyranny when the reason the USA is crashing is because the US has wars, is in debt, and has a police state.

Americans say that they love freedom, but then they turn around and say they need the government to give them free Obamacare, build a wall, protect the US from Yemen, wiretap their phones, arrest people for feeding the homeless, stop farmers from plowing fields, force people to get rid of dogs, ban vaping, and torture suspects.

Every country has the government it deserves.

The Communist Party of the USA is moderating its appeal. It has abandoned its old anti-religious rhetoric and welcomes People of Faith. It excoriates Stalin and Mao. That is one way to remove some stumbling blocks to potential membership among those who had only those as causes to avoid hammers-and-sickles. The oldest fascist movement in America, the KKK, may express this doggerel

Look out Ni**er
The Klan is getting bigger!

There are more white people involved in interracial marriages than there are in all the KKK groups in a fractured scene. (Yes, the KKK is fractured because there are far more potential Führer types in the KKK. (Yes, the KKK is exactly the sorts of people who would have been the most willing collaborators of the Third Reich in an occupied America, and KKK groups really are fascists. The Nazis learned much from the Second [1915] Klan in rhetoric and style).

So there are more white people bearing or siring mixed-race children than there are in racist movements. Explain that away!

War is a budget-buster. It is great for profits for those who sell materiel, whether weapons or provisions. COVID-19 is another budget-buster, much like a war in killing people and imposing huge costs. Debt is acceptable if it is attached to a money-generator, something that improves one's life, or an appreciating asset. Debt is the antithesis of prosperity. America does not have a forming police state with Biden as President as it did with Trump.

Americans so far are unwilling to pay the high taxes that many other people pay just to have medical care for all. The Wall is a fiscal disaster. We will probably be back in Afghanistan after some extreme affront.

Did you realize that much of the homelessness is the result of domestic abuse and of parents rejecting their LGBT kids? Now you know. I strongly endorse a crackdown on domestic violence. Beating a spouse is not a valid expression of freedom. I consider dogs better deterrents to crime than guns are. A Yorkshire terror -- I mean terrier -- I mean tiger -- can put someone in the hospital for some very bad bites. Small dogs have big teeth and big claws. Vaping is no better than smoking.

Quote:Every country has the government it deserves.

Are the people of Syria or North Korea so bad that they deserve what they have? Did the German people suddenly become monsters in 1933 and become decent people just as suddenly in 1945?

Without question, I am convinced that American People would be safer from despotism if they became wiser, less materialistic, and less bigoted. I firmly believe that all Americans who aren't too stupid or certifiably have something better to do with their lives would fare better with two years of liberal-arts education that would greatly broaden their knowledge and intellectual experience. Better Mozart than porn, wouldn't you say? Better that one walks a dog than masturbates alone. A demagogue like Donald Trump appeals to lonely, scared, angry, frustrated, ignorant people. I have no illusion that Donald Trump will be the last demagogue to bedevil America; we need to shore up our institutions, public and private, to protect ourselves from the next one who could exploit a military debacle or an economic meltdown. I'm not convinced that Americans got FDR and Germans got Hitler because Americans were nicer people and the Germans were heels.

Being in fear of a crazy or criminal spouse who owns a firearm is not my idea of freedom, especially in a culture (there are such cultures) that strongly disparage divorce even in the event of spousal violence. Such cultures may hold that a spouse who fears such violence can simply submit enough to soften the heart of a violent person.

By the way -- the Cuban State owns the economy, so in effect the employer pays for medical care.

There are positive freedoms. One is that I can drive on Interstate 94 in Michigan in the westbound lanes if headed west and in the eastbound lanes if headed east. I do not have any right to drive eastbound in the westbound lanes or westbound in the eastbound lanes. That creates a "negative freedom", or freedom from a negative consequence, as in having no reasonable fear of meeting someone driving the wrong way at a high speed.

To be free from the risk of pointless death from gunfire because a criminal, lunatic, or spouse abuser has a gun is a negative freedom.

Do you get it?
