The only benefit you seek Classic Xer from politics is to defend trickle-down neoliberalism, keep your taxes low and keep your guns. We on the Left are not interested in those things. I don't care if you lose your guns or have to pay higher taxes.

The American Right is losing its patience already. It has attacked the capitol and state capitols and threatened election workers with violence. It is shutting down democracy.

The American Right didn't attack the capitol. A bunch of crazy anarchist's forced entry and took over the capitol.

Sure. And Poland invaded Germany on September 1, 1939. After all such were the headlines in the Kingdom of Satan!

The Hard Right is doing everything possible to give its chosen politicians every edge, shady and if necessary, illicit edge for winning every possible election that it can. In a midterm election with a Democratic President it usually has plenty of licit edges.  If it gets power again, then one can be reasonably certain, as the GOP is now a semi-fascist Party as ruthless as a Marxist-Leninist Party, that it will perform a brutal crackdown on anyone and any group that strikes back or does even peaceful dissent.

If you don't believe me on this, retired General and Trump stooge Michael Flynn suggested that he would like to see our Armed Forces crack down on dissent against Trump as the Army of another country did. He mispronounced that country's name as "Minnamar"(Myanmar, formally Burma).

Don't get me wrong. There is plenty to go wrong that can, including a Russian invasion of Ukraine and a bursting of the real-estate bubble in China. But such happens with events that have no prompting in America. COVID-19 is still killing like a major war, so we are still in a Crisis era. Influential people seeking to transform America into an Apartheid state or a full-blown dictatorship? That scares the Hell out of me.

The Hard Right is simply intent on gaining power and crushing anything incompatible with its perverse dream.

Quote:Like I said, you should thank the two American Senators who recently diffused the beginning of another American Revolution/American Civil War. In less than a year, the ball will still be in your court despite a devastating political loss and fate will still be in your hands like it is now and like it was with the Confederates, the Imperial Japanese, the Nazi's and the Bolshevik's who proceeded you. Hell, the American Right basically gave the Left the power that it has and is losing today. You see, the rest of America had to see for themselves that the American Right has been right about the Left the entire time.

The Hard Right obviously wanted to keep Donald Trump President, and (for the first time in American history) electoral results be damned! Do you like predictable elections? Commie regimes reliably held elections and always won.

We liberal Democrats know well that we can lose. So it is in a democracy. So may it stay. This is a Crisis era, and one part of the danger is a Constitutional crisis when a near-majority holds democratic norms in contempt. Fascism is best explained as economically as possible as Bolshevik methods in the service of a reactionary agenda. Yes, even the Capitol Putsch reminded me in many ways of the Bolsheviks storming the Winter Palace in Petrograd in 1917. Petrograd would soon be renamed after the man who called for that takeover. You may have long known that city as Leningrad.

No one other than people like you care about the Capital Putsch or care about your views of Trump. You are in the same boat as Eric. Like I said the other day, you're fate is sealed. So, what blue (bad place) would  you prefer to die in? You have a choice now but you won't have it for much longer.

People are still being hauled in for criminal trials. The Feds have been slow to go after the most culpable figures. Prosecutors and investigators are apparently doing everything possible to get the solidest possible cases. Good police and prosecutors don't grandstand; they let the case be decided in a court of law. Guilty people may even think that they are getting away while they do things to incriminate themselves, like trying to destroy evidence or have meetings with fellow participants to coordinate testimony. Liberal media keep pressing news on the prosecution of the plotters.

We are in an ugly, distressing time. Trump did much to make it so. He was not alone, but I can think of other Republicans who would have been more successful and far less troublesome.  A Republican President who was halfway-decent and competent would have had a solid re-election. Being at the sixth year of a Romney Presidency would be far better than being at the start of the second year of the Biden Presidency that is possible only because of the bungling  and personal vileness of Donald Trump. I hope that we are closer to the new day of democratic renewal of a political experiment than to its end. The shadows are longest both just after sunrise and just before sunset.

Donald Trump still has a personality cult. Personality cults can long outlast the object of adulation, as is so with Benito Mussolini, Josef Stalin, and Mao Zedong. We still have Mafia groupies who still admire the rapacious, corrupt, murderous capi di tutti capi. Osama bin Laden and abu-Musab al-Zarqawi  will likely have admirers for the next few decades.

I'm going with the legal process that can take down someone like John Gotti. Nobody needs any tortures to extract abject confessions.

What I expect now is just more and more-severe disaster, with no further basis for any recovery in any future turning. America has been right-wing now for over 40 years. It might as well be Russia or China by now.

I don't think the Millennials have moved to the right; they've moved to the corner.  When did they vote in earnest?  They liked BHO, and some came out to oppose Trump.  But as a rule, they feel screwed and neglected by the older gens, and they're right.  They see the two parties as Tweedledum and Tweedledee.  This is the problem the Democrats can't see.  By trying to add to their base from the middle, they lose any chance at adding the masses waiting for someone to lead them.
The majority of the Millennials are now full fledged adults today. You speak of the Millennials as if you have some sort of hold over them when the reality is that you don't anymore of a hold over them than you have over me at this point. What you have are the Millennial tribes associated with Left Wing identity politics and the quasi socialist believers/supporters and they've pretty much cornered themselves and cut themselves off from the rest of the American Millennials today. As far as America, America has been free for about 240 years and I don't expect that to change in my lifetime or the American Millennials lifetime either. I've heard rumors that some of the leaders that you're talking about may be government informants. Somethings not right about the current Democratic investigation. It's to partisan or one sided to be viewed as legitimate. Plus, Nancy has given herself immunity even though she was technically the one in charge of security at the time. It's going to be interesting to see what all comes out when the Republicans are in charge, Like I've said, the government has a major credibility issue that's going to have to be addressed sooner than later.

The government did not have the time in which to have informants in place.

Offenders were obviously on one side here.

Nancy Pelosi is as responsible for this insurrection as a bank president is for a dope-sodden crook who robs a bank for the proceeds to be used in buying the next fix. (That is the usual pattern for a bank robber, as bank robbery is one of the easiest crimes to solve and the one in which arrests are made most rapidly).

A Democrat will be in charge until January 2025, and should Donald Trump be elected (Heaven forbid) he might issue a blanket amnesty upon people whom he sees as heroes. The people with the huge issue of credibility include the former President.

I figure at least one of the Trump criminal conspiracies will lead to a conviction.  Felons cannot hold elective office, which would prevent him from serving again, if not people throwing their votes away...

How many Millennials do you actually know?  I can say that I know many.  Of that 'many', most find politics repugnant, and are making a decision to move on alone, or in tandem with others in their respective cohorts.  To a large extent, it's the reason they have been unwilling to take jobs they hate and do work they find unacceptable.  They seem willing to have less to be freer, and free includes being free of people like you ... and me, for that matter.  Don't count on then being allies.

Trump learned from the big boys: delay, delay, delay.  How long did it take for Exxon-Mobile to finally settle the Exxon Valdez claim?  Nearly 23 years.

Delay has always been his go-to tactic.

I know a lot of them. Possible explanations, as I do not know the community in which you live:

1. You live in a changing era, one whose rural character is disappearing and in which life is getting more crowded, with heavier traffic, the squeezing-out of mom-and-pop businesses in favor of chains and such retailing entities as Walgreen's, Rite-Aid, CVS,
s Target, Costco, and Wal-Mart. If you don't have to live with poverty, rural life is far less stressful.

2. You live in a monocultural area in which the biggest divide is between Catholics and Protestants in culture. Such places tend to be much more politically conservative than others in which diversity exists.

3. You are as expressive of your cranky (and that is the most charitable way to describe them) in personal life as here. Everybody knows that you are an arch-reactionary devoid of any nuance and wisely tells you exactly what you want to believe to avoid your ire. You might have all sorts of right-wing banners "Trump won and you know it", F--K BIDEN", a rattlesnake flag, and a "Blue Lives Matter" banner that tell a liberal to talk only about things devoid of political import. Even in sports people know enough to not mention Colin Kaepernick.

I may have missed something.

How long can it (made up delusions) continue serving you guys? How many Biden/Harris supporters supported the actions of BLM and Antifa and the rioters, the looters and all the the destruction associated with them? How many of Them ( the radical LW activists and their rioters, looters and property destroyers) voted for Biden/Harris? So, did tens of thousands of heavily armed Americans and several thousand American troops breach the Capitol as millions of Americans surrounded it on Jan 6? I mean, you do realize that the American Right is 70 some million strong today right and its not getting weaker. Guess what, Jan 6 may very well turn out to be the  Progressives (Them's) Pearl Harbor like they said recently and all seem to believe among Themselves and view it these days.

I condemn those 2 senators because they are ceding power to you guys. If you guys take over the state, the state will likely not be able to stop voter suppression and authoritarian take-over of our elections by party hacks. So those two senators are sending the USA down the road to civil war.

I support antifa (sometimes), and certainly BLM. antifa means anti-fascist, and they confront fascists. BLM is black lives matter, and they are not violent, but you racists find ways to blame them for riots. They just demonstrate. I don't support rioters and looters. I understand their frustration though, living in a country with you guys who suppress them. Of course some of them were provacateurs from your side. antifa and the rioters provide fodder for your false blame games. Your attack on the Capitol was not done by troops, although some of them were former troops; the kind of traitors that Secretary Austin is now purging from the ranks. The capitol was attacked by the Proud Boys, the Boogaloo Boys, the Oath Keepers, QAnon-ers and other Trump-sheep idiots. I didn't realize it but the PBS doc showed Alex Jones inciting the capitol riot in person, as Trump, Trump Jr. and Guiliani did from in front of the White House and then sat back and watched it. The capitol rioters were a bunch of deceived loonies. I look at it not as the progressives' Pearl Harbor, but as the new Confederates' Bleeding Kansas and the violence in the Senate that happened at the same time, both in May 1856, especially the Sumner-Brooks incident. We are at that point in the cold civil war 4T as these incidents were in the civil war 4T. If you have your way, the civil war will get hotter, and is due to climax in 4 or 5 years from now.

We don't need your trust.

The American Right was/still is currently idle and waiting for Left to fuck up and justify the need for another American Civil War. Like I said, you should thank the two American Senators who recently diffused the beginning of another American Revolution/American Civil War.

Your narrative gets more complicated with each telling. In that you resemble the infamous crank Alex Jones. You would have us all believe that everything is a deep cover for some monstrous plot and that nobody honestly represents his beliefs. If I am to try to understand you, then i must accept that almost everyone is more intent on misrepresenting the Other Side than in making genuine expressions of their beliefs. Human life can be complicated, but few people can falsify themselves convincingly beyond a certain point. To be sure, hypocrisy is normal if nasty; few people can live up to their stated ideals. Then we have veritable armies of cheats, swindlers, hustlers, goldbricks, and poseurs; artists more noteworthy for self-promotion than their creativity. But at this point I am beginning to sound like the Lord High Executioner in The Mikado, whose "little list" of abrasive and offensive characters who "never would be missed" is adapted to the time and place. Computer spammers are frequent inclusions in recent years. It's rarely such offenders as terrorists, child pornographers, spouse abusers, drunk drivers, dope dealers, or human traffickers; such wouldn't have comic effect. Someone may already have a version involving participants in the Capitol Putsch. Alex Jones would be an obvious inclusion.

Note well: science generally prefers the simplest explanation consistent with reality. I have seen a story that claims that the Ptolemaic, Earth-centered hypothesis can be explained with 75 epicycles, including those necessary for Einsteinian relativity (the latter is basic physics... really, it is!); the more conventional one derived from Copernicus, Kepler, et al. is far simpler and is the canon. Human nature is extremely complex, but Freud is useful for simplifying it. Wise people read fiction such as Goethe, Dostoevsky, and Hugo to get insights on human behavior; today it is practically impossible to write credible fiction not under the influence of Freud.
The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated Communist  but instead the people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists -- Hannah Arendt.

If it takes another American civil war to prove it then so be it.

I know a lot of them. Let's see, pretty much all my nieces and nephews and the bulk of the kids (all present day adults) associated with people/ parents my age (friends, family members, coworkers and so forth) and all the kids who grew up in the neighborhood are Millennials. I bet I know as many of them if not more of them than you do these days.

I live in a rather large ( square mile wise) 2nd tier suburban community with a population of about 42,000 people today. Population wise, it's pretty diverse ( lots of whites, quite a few blacks and a lot of browns and there isn't an ongoing squabble between Protestants and Catholics and there hasn't really been one during my lifetime either. The vast majority are working people who either own homes ( mansions, McMansions, typical residential homes, condo's, town homes and trailer houses ) or rent apartments. A relatively small portion live in federally subsidized housing projects or section 8 apartments or apartment complexes and public housing mainly funded by the state/county. I don't have any of the stuff  (right wing banners or bumper stickers that you claimed. Go figure, you are wrong about me once again. At what point do you give on stereotypes or are stereotypes the only thing you know about Republican voters today? You better start figuring it out soon because you're losing more of the country as we speak. So, how reliant are you upon the country these days? What's going to happen to you when 2/3 of the country says good bye and good riddance? Like I've said, you've got a few years to figure it out if you're lucky but that's about it.

You are right. The country is going your way. I don't think there's anything worth saving in America at this point. Any country that prefers Trump over Biden is over the edge and totally sick. You seem to think we are concerned about what will happen to us personally-- which you guys will do to us. What does it matter? The whole of humanity is going down the drain. What difference does it make if a few liberals like us survive or not. We are ALL going down, thanks to you guys.
