Now you're on the right track
That's good, I didn't know about those 3 artists. Of course, in this field there are thousands of them. A whole electronic universe.
When I first heard the rave sound in about 1991 or so, it was very primitive; not much more than beats. It quickly seemed to acquire more variety and innovative sounds. But I didn't know it went back to Chicago in 1987. I know it well as it influenced the ambient electronica sounds from the early 90s into the 2000s and today. In the two you have above, especially The KLF, it was blended with funk and soul. Nowadays of course EDM (electronic dance music) influences a lot of pop music. It origins also go back to that track by Klaus Schulze "Totem" (1972-73) that I posted on the best songs ever thread, and other cosmic rock European sounds, and in turn back to 60s psychedelia.
