Someone trying to protect something non-existent(or even worse, what cannot exist) often does great harm to what does exist.
In Donald Trump we have about the dodgiest political figure in American life that we have ever had. If he is not a deliberate liar he is often reckless with the truth. That might be good for a used-car salesman or a real-estate huckster, but not for the President of the United States
