He was angry about blacks being shot by white cops. That anger is understandable, but shooting them means he went off his rocker. And he was enabled in his craziness by our permissive gun laws.

I personally remember the days of the Black Panthers vehemently opposing gun control, the Symbionese Liberation Army and their cyanide-laced bullets, and that iconic photo of Patty Hearst holding what today's liberals would call an "assault weapon" - so I am well aware of how the Second Amendment shoe can go from one foot to the other. It can just as easily go back again - and maybe now it is.

On the Best Songs Ever thread I spoke of the Summer of 1966 (especially late June to early August) as the time when a bolt of lighting changed music and changed the world.
Another bolt of lightning came down on August 1, 1966, that changed the world, but not in a good way. And our response to it has been, to say the least, horrific. AP calls it the beginning of an era, and so it was.

What a memorial. I could only compare that to the worst laws ever passed by Hitler. But there it is. A state and much of a nation gone utterly insane. A nation that wants more of the same.
Michael Moore's award winning documentary, Bowling for Columbine, was broadcast today on the Decades Network. A fitting memorial to the 19 people who died 50 years ago today on the day our era of mass shootings opened, or later died because of that mass shooting on Aug.1, 1966. I caught this line from the doc. "if the idea that more guns reduces violence were true, The USA would be the safest country in the world. The opposite is true." And truer words could never have been spoken.

As you should know, the well regulated (well trained) militia hasn't existed at least since the Civil War. Militia units were enough of a nuisance to the Union regular forces during the Civil War that the winning Union veteran officers cut funding for training for the militia, all military aged males. This began a shift in the culture away from trained organized everyman protecting the People to paid professionals bearing the greater responsibility.
This was precisely the time when the US homicide rates began their long climb.
The end of the well regulated militia would be a hard bell to unring. Todays military age adults, and I expect the ladies would be drawn in as well as the men, wouldn't want to give up enough of their time to train to return to a militia culture. It won't happen without a very real threat that militia units would be appropriate to respond to. As I've been saying on other threads, I don't see any spirals of violence escalating just now, thus restoration of a true well regulated militia is (expletive deleted) unlikely. At this point our homicide rate is entirely comparable to Europe and other wealthy nations, so there is no threat that would justify such a drastic response.
But will there be young black men angry at a biased justice system and racist law enforcement personnel? Yes. There will be. Our traditionally racist justice system ought to be fixed. A clear decisive effort to defuse that spiral of violence will bring a much better return than attempting prohibition.

And Delaware has just abolished the death penalty - in addition to having gun laws that tilt the playing field most heavily in favor of the criminal.

It's even worse than that for the fear-mongers. It takes 3/4 of the states to repeal the 2nd amendment. And even if the 2A is removed, that doesn't mean that someone would take guns away from people. That would be up to congress, states or localities to approve.

I still think it unlikely that Trump could shoot himself in the foot so many times unless he is aiming at his foot.
Does this really belong in the Gun Control thread? Surely, one of the Trump or election threads...
I will assert that no amount of gun prohibition, no matter how rigidly enforced, could possibly prevent Trump from shooting himself in the foot. No way.
